Although the mower lacks some important feature that other high-end models boast, it's still worth your attention. Besides coming at a reasonably low price, this robot lawn mower does feature an amazing overall performance, ensuring that it will mow your lawn to perfection.
People spend a huge amount of their time mowing the lawn, a chore that definitely no one likes but that has to be done nonetheless. With the apparition of robot lawn mowers, the situation has changed for the better, though, people now having the chance of laying back while the lawn is mowed to perfection. A top of the line product of this kind that is surely worth your attention is none other than the Robomow RX12. Robomow is a trusted and renowned company on this market, being founded back in 1995 under the name Friendly Machines. Born from the dream of one of the co-founders to stop being obligated to waste his free time mowing the lawn, the company really took off fast and became a household name due to the high-quality products that it has delivered over the years. The model that we are reviewing in this article is a semi-automatic robot lawn mower that comes at an affordable price which makes it even more desirable considering that most products of this kind are more expensive. It’s recommended for lawns that measure up to 1/20 of an acre, and while the noise level isn’t specified, we can assure you that it’s not loud at all when operating.
The robot has a generous adjustable height, allowing you to set it anywhere between 0.5 and 1.7 inches. The wide 7-inch cutting width that it boasts ensures that it won’t take long for the robot to be done with its chore. Another great feature of this model is the fact that it has a floating deck. This means that the unit will always cut the grass in a smooth manner due to the fact that it will follow the contour of the lawn. It can handle lawns that have several zones, mowing each of the zones individually depending on the chosen settings for each one. Due to its compact design and innovative features, it can easily navigate narrow passageways on its own. Also, it is capable of handling slopes of up to 15 percent or 8.5 degrees.
This semi-automatic robot lawn mower needs a bit of help when it comes to its initial setup, but thankfully, the procedure is explained in detail in the instructions manual that it comes with. Therefore, you won’t have a hard time at all when it comes to this task. When the battery starts to run out of power, the robot will return to the docking station on its own, sitting there until the battery is full. Unfortunately, an important feature that this model lacks is a rain sensor. This means that the unit won’t notice when the grass is wet in order to return to the docking station until the weather is good. Also, it’s not smartphone compatible and it lacks important safety and security features such as an alarm that would have announced you when the unit was out of the perimeter.

This model measures 20 inches by 16.5 inches by 10 inches and it weighs only 16 pounds, so it won’t be difficult for you to find a storage place for it or move it to that storage place when you’re done using it. It comes with 600 feet of perimeter wire, which is more than enough for you to use when delimiting the area that the unit must mow. In case you find that the perimeter wire that comes with it isn’t enough, you can purchase an additional 330 feet separately for $49. Other important accessories that this model comes with include a plot connector, two wire connectors, the base station, stakes, 50 feet of extension cable, a power box, and 250 pegs. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with replacement blades, so you have to purchase them separately when it’s needed. Another important accessory that it lacks is a remote control that would have allowed you to start and stop its operation remotely, without having to actually go next to the unit and press on a certain button. Also, we couldn’t find information whether the materials used in its manufacturing make it fully weatherproof or not.
When the unit encounters an obstacle, the blade stops working to prevent damaging it. Another important safety feature that it comes with is Child Lock, a feature that ensures the small ones won’t be able to use the unit when you’re not around. Also, it features anti-theft protection, more precisely it features a PIN code that locks the unit, others being unable to operate it unless they actually know this code.
The RX12 by Robomow is powered by a lead acid battery that takes 16 to 20 hours to fully recharge and that offers an average work time of 90 to 120 minutes. It features a single 7-inch stainless steel cutting blade that delivers an amazing cutting performance and that needs to be changed after 6-12 months. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the blade isn’t a snap-on, the procedure of changing it will be more difficult than it normally is with other units. Also, this model doesn’t come ready to use, some setup work being necessary. Fortunately, the instructions manual is explicit when it comes to giving the necessary directions for you to set the robot up with ease.
This product is backed up by Robomow for a 1-year period. During this period of time, any defects that appear and need to be fixed will be taken care of by the manufacturer free of charge as long as they are covered by the warranty agreement. In case you have any questions regarding the operation of the robot lawn mower, questions that you can’t find an answer to in the user manual that it comes with, you can contact the customer support team via telephone or e-mail to get the needed help.
